Albeit a small step in our journey to help disadvantage kids enjoy sport we are pleased to say that in our first nine months of operating we have been able to make the following grants. We have chosen not to name the schools where grants have been made so as to respect their individual circumstances.
The provision of a grant of £1,900 has kitted out an entire year at large High Wycombe Community School in proper sports kit. For many of these kids it is the first time they have ever had their own sports gear. Their PE master told us his pupils grow a few inches in height through the pride of putting on their own sports kit for the first time.
A £1,400 grant to a Junior School in High Wycombe has provided a range of sports equipment and kit that the entire school can use. We have visited the school and seen just what a difference this has made to these youngsters.
At another large Community School our grant of £1,800 has funded the provision of three Sport (separate disciplines) Coaches that everyone at the school has access to. These coaches are available after school hours thus providing much needed sports activity for their pupils.
Kids in Sport have funded the shortfall at another junior school for some children to attend their Schools 2009 Outdoor Sports Education Trip through the provision of a £905 grant. The entire year can now go without anyone having the embarrassment of others knowing their parents couldn’t afford the trip.
Kids in Sport have funded PACE’S swimming costs for £2,258 to cover the coming year, thus enabling these disabled youngsters to enjoy the freedom swimming provides them with. Swimming is the only sport most of these disabled kids can ever undertake.
To ensure our grants go as far as possible, Kids in Sport in conjunction with Sports Match will shortly be funding an Astro Turf Cricket pitch for a large Community School through the provision of £3,750 grant. The total cost being £7,500 of which we will pay fifty percent.
Following a request from Whiz Kidz In November 2008 Kids in Sport provided a £2,500 grant to purchase a lightweight sports wheelchair for a child on the charity’s waiting list. We are told he is now enjoying sport for the first time and just what a difference this has made to his life.
In summary we are pleased to say that over £20,000 has been made in grants in our first full year of operating.
We are currently seeking out more opportunities for the coming year 2009 where our grants can have the biggest impact in helping as many kids as possible participate and enjoy sport. If you feel we can help your organisation/school please contact us.
