The charity was set up by parents Roger and Pam Budd, of School Close, High Wycombe, following Julian’s death from a rare breathing condition, aged 33, in 2007.

It is on course to reach its target of £50,000 worth of grants this year.

The trust has already given out nine grants totalling £20,000 to a number of schools in Buckinghamshire, including Naphill and Walters Ash Primary School, which used the money to buy new goal posts, team kit and sports equipment.

Mr Budd said: “We are over the moon that for the second year running we had a full turnout supporting children who don’t have the means to participate in sport regularly and this work is in the memory of our Julian.

“Out of the sadness of losing our lovely boy, we hope to put a smile on children’s faces, like the great one he always had.”

About 100 guests attended a dinner in the evening.

The event was sponsored by Beaconsfieild firm Vantis. Ian Hewitt, the company’s business development partner, said: “It’s a great honour to be involved with this event and we wish the trust all the best.”

The chairty is run by 11 trustees – all volunteers - and has been backed by ex-footballer Bob Wilson who set up his own charity - the Willow Foundation - after his daughter Anna died from cancer.

Wycombe Wanderers have adopted it as their charity of the season.

BBC Breakfast presenter Bill Turnbull will host a quiz night for the organisation, while a Valentines ball is planned for February, to be held at the blues’ ground Adams Park.
